Tule Fog Catalog

Arrangement Philosophy:
The offerings in this catalog have accumulated over the past several years. Many of these arrangements have been played by my community college guitar ensemble class. I chose many "popular classics" to arrange and always tried to include an easier line (usually guitar III) for the less advanced students. Guitars I and II are designed for more advanced players. These parts are more difficult and in the higher ranges of the fingerboard. Although most of these arrangements include an easier line, none of them could be considered approachable by beginners.

All of these arrangements are of the highest quality. For the most part, I have tried to remain as faithful to the original score as possible and still make things playable on guitar. Some pieces have been shortened. When this occurs, it is indicated in the listings. These pieces went through many re-writes and demo recordings (on guitars) before they were finished. All of the arrangements in the Tule Fog catalog have been played by guitarists in public performances.

The ensemble arrangements work well with several guitarists on a part. Most of the pieces in this catalog have been successfully performed by ensembles of up to 25 guitarists. Parts are available separately for those who wish to perform these pieces with large groups. The dropped "D" indication in the listings refers only to the tuning of guitar IV. The difficulty level is roughly the same for most of these arrangements unless I have notated otherwise in the listings. Each edition includes a score and a set of parts.

Arrangements

TF-101 Moussorgsky: Promenade and
The Old Castle (Pictures at an Exhibition),
Pachelbel:
Kanon in D Major
Guitar Quartet
$15.00

The Moussorgsky pieces make a nice pair. The Old Castle uses a thumb "tambour" technique for the bass part and the guitar I part has some high notes.. The Kanon in D has been shortened. One of the more popular arrangements. Fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-102 Handel: Hornpipe (Water Music)
Guitar Quartet
$8.00

The guitar I part has what amounts to a solo in the second part of this piece. At a fast tempo this piece can be difficult. Fingerings.
Dropped "D".

TF-103 Couperin: Mysterious Barricades
Guitar Quartet
$8.00

Guitars I and II have interlocking parts throughout most of the piece. This arrange- ment uses pizzicato and harmonics to add interest to the music and to imitate the harpsichord original. Fingerings.

TF-104 J.S. Bach: Sleepers Awake, Fugue in Cm (from WTC) and Jesu, Joy in Man's Desiring
Guitar Trio and Quartet
$15.00

Bach on guitar is magic. Sleepers Awake and Jesu, Joy are quartets and Fugue in Cm is a trio. Sleepers has been shortened. No fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-105 Tchaikovsky: Arab Dance, Dance of the Flowers and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
(Nutcracker Suite)
Guitar Quartet
$17.00

These pieces from the Nutcracker are perennial Christmas favorites. The Waltz has been shortened and the Sugarplum fairy (guitar 1) calls for a 20th fret (this can be faked if you haven't a 20th fret on your guitar). These pieces sound great on guitars. Difficult. No fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-107 Mouret: Rondeau (Masterpiece Theater Theme)
Guitar Quartet
$8.00

Yes, you have heard this piece many times but it works very well on guitars and is fun to play. Easier. Fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-108 Vivaldi: Largo (from Winter - The Four Seasons), Largo (from Concerto in D )
Guitar Quartet

$8.00

These two largos are beautiful and comparatively easy to play. The Largo in D is arranged so the two top lines play the melody in unison most of the time. The Winter Largo has the melody on guitar I and the rest of the parts are accompaniment. Fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-109 Purcell: Rondeau (from El Abdelazer)
Guitar Quartet
$7.00

This attractive Rondeau has a very catchy melody part. Fingerings.

TF-110 Corelli: Gavotte, Vivace and Allegro (Opus 6)
Guitar Quartet
$12.00

Three pieces from Corelli's famous Opus 6. The Gavotte and Vivace are short and melodic. The Allegro is more substantial. All three pieces have those suspensions and interplay between parts that is characteristic of Corelli 's music. No fingerings. Dropped "D".

TF-111 Grieg: Anitra's Dance (from Peer Gynt Suite)
Guitar Quartet
$8.00

This movement from Peer Gynt Suite has some interesting interplay between parts and some rather high notes for guitar I. Difficult. No Fingerings. Dropped"D".

TF-112 Traditional: Carol of the Bells
Guitar Trio
$7.00

This Christmas carol uses a variety of techniques. Guitar II has two short passages of artificial harmonics. Easier. A few Fingerings.

TF-113 Traditional: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Guitar Quintet
$8.00

This beautiful arrangement uses many guitaristic devices to keep things interesting. There are extended passages of artificial harmonics and use of the thumb "tambour" technique. Difficult. No fingerings.

TF-114 Dowland: Frog Galliard
Guitar Quartet
$7.00

This piece is your basic Dowland arranged for four guitars. Considerably easier than the consort book transcriptions. No fingerings.

TF-115 Strogers: In Nomine Pavin
Guitar Quartet
$7.00

Similar to the Dowland in origin and difficulty. This piece has some interesting rhythms in the last section. No fingerings.

TF-116 Handel: Fugue (from the Messiah)
Guitar Quartet
$8.00

From the Overture to the Messiah. This is a straight ahead arrangement of the instrumental fugue that opens the Messiah. The slow introductory part has been omitted. There is quite a bit of interplay between parts. No fingerings.

TF-106 Christmas Carols: Solo Guitar: Angels We Have Heard on High, Carol of the Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Deck the Halls, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Silent Night, The First Noel, O Little Town of Bethlehem, We Wish You a Merry Christmas
$8.00

These carols vary in difficulty from very easy to difficult. I have tried to balance the musical considerations with the need to keep things playable. Fingerings.
